Our coaches provide a framework that focuses on individual skill development while also reinforcing important team concepts. Players in our program will be exposed to training that pushes them out of their comfort zone. This training improves individual skills while also challenging our players to become creative decision-makers on the ice. Our staff, our coaches, and the structure of our academy provides the best environment for student-athletes to obtain maximum results both academically and athletically
The AS Hockey Schools coaches really connect with the students. They pay attention to details, correct mechanics, and don’t just run the students through drills to get them tired. They actually pay attention to every skater during every drill to ensure they are mechanically sound and get the students to rise to their potential. I think the reason why the quality and attention to detail are so awesome at AS is because it is a very organized hockey school.

The AS hockey program has been a great fit for our son. He loves the coaches and the individual attention and feedback he gets from them. He has also had the opportunity to work with several amazing guest coaches, from former Hurricanes players to the current Hurricanes skills coach. Skating before school every morning has improved his focus in the classroom and academic performance as well. The quality hockey instruction along with an excellent academic program all under one roof at the Hurricanes training center has been a great experience for our family.
– Mom of High School Student
I cannot say enough good things about the AS hockey program. What an amazing opportunity for young hockey players looking to grow their skills and knowledge of the sport in a fun and supportive environment. Elite level coaching right here in our own state! The improvements I have personally witnessed in my own 10-year-old are impressive and he loves the coaches and program.

Our Hockey Training Philosophy is to create a culture where the athletes are striving to improve on a daily basis. Our program is run by highly qualified coaches that will enable us to enhance the performance of each individual. Each individual player will excel on all athlete development components: physical, technical-tactical, mental and emotional. The program focuses on the fundamentals of technique and teaching good personal habits to enhance the game.
The on-ice curriculum will be skill based and develop the necessary tools in order to achieve the goals of each athlete. Our experienced coaches will utilize the same skills that they have used to coach NHL, AHL, NCAA D1/D3 and various Junior league players. The focus will be on the individual details that each player can use to become a dynamic player rather than just a good player. Our goal is to challenge athletes by incorporating overspeed skating, tactical play, game awareness, puck control and protection, shooting technique, angling and body contact. The training will be comprehensive and small area games will help the student to translate and apply the skill sets to game situations. Throughout the course of the school year, guest coaches who specialize in different facets of the game will supplement the already diverse hockey curriculum.
At our Hockey Academy, we want to encourage the student athletes to be well rounded and understand the characteristics and lifestyle that are required to be a successful athlete. We will have seminars that focus on mindset, nutrition, healthy workouts, injury prevention, leadership, time management and hockey pathways from different leaders in the community.

Following the interview, you will be asked to provide transcripts and a reference from a current teacher/administrator. AS admissions will then evaluate the student’s application package.
